About the 'Pill Hobblers'
Pill, (previous to 1828, called Crockerne Pill), has traditionally been the home of the Hobblers of Bristol's ports. (Portishead Dock, the Royal Edward Dock at Avonmouth and at Cumberland Basin).
Pill is situated on the western outskirts of Bristol close to both Portbury and Avonmouth docks, within easy access of the M5 motorway.
Following the privatisation of the ports by the City of Bristol, the Hobblers established 'Pill Hobblers Marine Services Ltd' in 1964 to provide them with Hobbling services.
Pill Hobblers are responsible for the mooring of all vessels in and out of Portbury and Avonmouth docks, in addition they also cover the Bristol City Docks as and when the need arises ie 'The Harbour festival'
